About the North East
Northumbria, the historical name for the area is still much used and much loved and was originally our Anglo Saxon kingdom name in the 7th century. North East England is a land of proud castles, glorious coastline, unspoilt countryside, with an amazing spirit of history and a buzzing modern life. A region with a breathtaking array of untouched and uncongested landscapes including its own wildly spectacular Northumberland National Park, areas of outstanding natural beauty, a heritage coastline and also two World Heritage sites in Hadrian’s Wall and Durham Cathedral and Castle and a World Heritage site nomination for the twin monasteries of St. Pauls in Jarrow and St Peters in Monkwearmouth.
